New this month
We've added the website of one of Barcelona's newest landmarks -- the distinctive Torre Agbar.
On our sports page we have the sports section on the excellent though somewhat sprawling BCN.es site. If you are looking for sports clubs or fixtures, apart from anything else, it's a good place to look.
Barcelona's different neighbourhoods
Most visitors to Barcelona will visit the Ciutat Vella (the old part of the city, including the Ramblas) and the Eixample, the latter because it contains most of the Modernista architecture, apart from anything else.
The Eixample, the grid-iron district laid out by Ildefons Cerdà (1815-75) was originally designed to include a communal garden, among other things, inside each block. On proeixample.com, you can find out more about Cerdà, the Eixample and which blocks you can go inside, as well as about ongoing efforts to restore things to the way they were intended.
On what exactly what wrong, why Cerdà's far-sighted plan never really came into its own, it is illustrative to read Eduardo Mendoza's magnificent novels about Barcelona, particularly La ciudad de los prodigios, as it is on many aspects of Barcelona's recent history.
There is also information, in Spanish and Catalan only, on Barcelona's different neighbourhoods on the BCN.es (Town Council) website, including their history. The site can be rather a nightmare to have to search, note!
